The history of Islam is a rich tapestry that spans over 1,400 years, beginning in the 7th century CE when the Prophet Muhammad received revelations from Allah (God) in what is now modern-day Saudi Arabia. These revelations were compiled into the Quran, the holy book of Islam. After Muhammad’s death in 632 CE, the Islamic community, or Ummah, expanded rapidly, conquering vast territories and establishing a vast and influential civilization. The early Islamic Caliphates, including the Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates, played a significant role in shaping Islamic history. The spread of Islam across Asia, Africa, and Europe brought about cultural, scientific, and intellectual achievements during the Islamic Golden Age. The religion evolved into various sects, with Sunni and Shia being the two major branches. Over time, Islamic empires rose and fell, including the Abbasid, Ottoman, and Mughal Empires. Today, Islam is one of the world’s major religions, with a diverse and global community of over a billion followers. Its history continues to influence the contemporary world in numerous ways.
